Emerging from the receding floodwaters, the remains of an 82-year-old man, tragically swept away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Brgy. Ginabucan, Catmon, has been recovered. This somber discovery brings a poignant close to a fervent search.

The victim, identified as Diosdado Butaslac, an 82-year-old resident of Sitio Sagay, Brgy. Ginabucan, was found at approximately 9:00 a.m., his body adrift in the river. Earlier, members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in Catmon had diligently conducted search and retrieval operations across the waters of Sogod and Carmen. However, it was a call at around 8:00 a.m. from the Brgy. Captain of Ginabucan that ultimately led them to the victim’s house, where the body was located.

Rescuers quickly went up the mountain to get the body, which will be placed in an embalming chamber.

Mayor Avis Monleon offered her heartfelt condolences to the Butaslac family, expressing a profound hope that such a tragedy, which has already claimed three lives in the barangay, will not recur.

She extended her gratitude to the dedicated rescuers, including members of the MDRRMO in Catmon and the Coast Guard, for their crucial role in the search and retrieval operation. |Bombo Irene Ardiente
