French actress Brigitte Bardot has died at the age of 91.

Her foundation confirmed the news but did not give a cause of death.

Known in French showbiz as B.B., she was known for her sexy films.

She appeared in nearly 40 films, including “…And God Created Woman” (1956), “Contempt” (1963), and “Viva Maria!” ” (1965), and was a popular singer in France in the 1960s.

Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot was born in Paris on September 28, 1934, where she lived in a luxurious apartment not far from the Eiffel Tower.

At the age of 39 in 1973, she retired from acting to found an animal protection organization.

In 1986, she founded the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, an animal rights charity that protects wild and domestic animals.

She became a vegetarian and in 2013 threatened to apply for Russian citizenship in protest at plans to kill two sick elephants at a French zoo.

French President Emmanuel Macron was among those who paid tribute and recognition to the late French actress.
