Gilas Pilipinas suffered a setback in their first game of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup at the hands of Chinese Taipei by a score of 95-87.

Chinese Taipei dominated the game, which from the very beginning, did not allow the country’s national basketball team to gain an advantage in the tournament held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Gilas was challenged by early foul trouble by naturalized player Justin Brownlee, who fouled out early in the final quarter.

As Gilas Pilipinas tried to close the gap, Chinese Taipei’s defense and offense were strong, which is why Gilas’ situation remained tense.

It is worth remembering that Gilas’ first loss to Chinese Taipei was in February, so this new loss for Gilas is the second time.

In that game, Ying-Chun Chen was the star of Chinese Taipei, who accumulated 34 points.

Gilas, meanwhile, will compete in the next tournament against New Zealand and Iraq for Group D.
