The Gilas Pilipinas Women’s team remains winless in the ongoing FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025. Their journey in the tournament has ended after a tough loss to Japan, leading to their elimination.
In their match against Japan, the Gilas Women tried a strategy of intentionally fouling, hoping it would disrupt Japan’s play. However, it didn’t work as planned. Even with Monica Okoye with some crucial free throws, Japan still managed to extend their lead to six points, securing an 85-79.
Despite the loss, Jack Animam, Naomi Panganiban, and Vanessa De Jesus showed strong teamwork and played well together. Their combined efforts, however, weren’t quite enough to overcome the Japanese team.
Gilas now has a record of two losses and no wins. On the other hand, Japan is performing strongly with a perfect record of two wins and no losses.
The Gilas Women will still have another chance to get a win. They’ll be looking to bounce back when they face Lebanon this coming Wednesday.
