Former Ako Bicol Party List Representative Zaldy Co and 15 others who were issued arrest warrants in connection with the anomalous flood control projects have been given an ultimatum to surrender by Monday, November 24.
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla made the statement after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. himself confirmed on Friday that there are arrest warrants against Co, former officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways and private construction firm Sunwest Corporation in connection with the flood control anomaly in Mindoro.
According to Sec. Remulla, he will issue a memorandum order once he receives a copy of the arrest warrants.
In an interview, the secretary said they are giving the accused until Monday to surrender to the nearest government agency, otherwise they will pursue them and do everything they can to bring them to justice.
When it comes to serving the arrest warrant on Co who is currently outside the Philippines, Sec. Remulla said they are not ruling out the possibility that the former lawmaker is already in the country and may have entered through the “back door”.
According to the secretary, they will go to the former lawmaker’s home addresses to serve the warrant and will also conduct inspections of his businesses if he is there, and if not, they will send a notice to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to arrest Co.
Earlier, Sec. Remulla reported that based on their tracking, Co was spotted in Japan last Monday but later went to China and possibly returned to Europe on Thursday.
