Heavy rains lashed Romania overnight Sunday up to yesterday, triggering flash floods in the northeast of the country, killing at least three people and forcing dozens of residents to evacuate.

Hundreds were forced to evacuate their homes, while Romania’s rescue services continued to be deployed to the hardest-hit areas of Neamt and Suceava, with 890 people rescued in Neamt.

Residents were rescued by helicopters and firefighters in the operation, with some still trapped in their homes by floodwaters.

Additionally, responders first found the body of a 66-year-old man under a stream in the town of Neagra, according to the Department for Emergency Situations, while two other women who were reported missing were also found dead.
