Senator Ping Lacson has denied allegations that he was playing it safe after voting to abstain from the filing of articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte.

The senator defended himself against allegations by some groups that the motion for reconsideration filed in the House to appeal the Supreme Court’s decision that the impeachment complaint was unconstitutional is still alive.

Lacson pointed out that abstention is the closest thing to following the Supreme Court’s decision compared to voting “Yes” or “No,” before or after the motion for reconsideration.

On the other hand, he continued to say that he would not comment on the merits of the case as it is not impossible to overturn the first decision of the Supreme Court.

“I’d rather not comment on the merits ng kaso. Baka mamaya mabaligtad at matuloy kami maging Senate Impeachment Court, tine-telegraph ko na. “Ang gusto ko makita ang ebidensya,” Lacson said.
