It is an undeniable fact that Cebuanos consistently excel in national examinations. Beyond achieving high passing rates, they frequently secure top rankings, a tradition proven once again by two Cebuanos who have brought pride not only to the province but also to their respective universities as topnotchers in the April 2026 Pharmacists Licensure Examination.
Denver Miles Seno Arcelo, who placed 4th with a rating of 94.10% from the University of the Visayas-Cebu City, and Jarein Mae Astillero Cirunay, who placed 6th with a rating of 93.20% from Southwestern University.
In an exclusive interview with the Bombo Radyo Cebu news team, the two achievers shared their experiences. Cirunay admitted to being overcome with emotion upon hearing the news, stating that her first instinct was to offer a prayer of gratitude to the Almighty God.
On the other hand, Arcelo shared that while several professional opportunities have already come his way, he has decided to prioritize rest for now to recover from the exhaustion of his intensive board exam preparations.
Both topnotchers expressed deep gratitude to their friends, families, and the Lord for granting them this immense opportunity and blessing. Furthermore, they shared inspiring messages for current pharmacy students who dream of passing or topping future board exams.
Cirunay encouraged aspiring pharmacists to persevere despite the “rocky, slippery, and difficult road” ahead. She emphasized the importance of self-care and warned students never to neglect the rest their bodies need when faced with exhaustion.
Meanwhile, Arcelo, who expressed profound thanks to his support system, advised students to remain focused on core concepts and to make a habit of answering practice questions. He highlighted that one should not fear making mistakes, as every error should be analyzed and treated as a valuable lesson.
