A small aircraft belonging to a medical charity has crashed in a densely populated neighborhood of the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, killing six people, local authorities said.
The Cessna Plane run by AMREF Flying Doctors crashed while route to Hargeisa, the capital of the Somali breakaway territory of Somaliland.
In a statement issued by Kiambu County Commissioner Henry Wafula, he said four people on board were killed, including doctors, nurses and the pilot – as well as two other people on the ground, while two others were seriously injured.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority said the plane took off from Wilson Airport at 02:14 PM (1114 GMT) and lost contact with air traffic control three minutes later.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has expressed its condolences over the tragic incident involving an air ambulance mission.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident involving an air ambulance mission,” KCAA said in a statement.
In the incident, an eyewitness, who remained anonymous, told a media outlet that he heard a loud noise, and saw a fireball and debris flying.
For now, authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
