According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake’s epicenter was near Pitaloza Arriba in Central America.
The shaking was felt in Panama City, where authorities evacuated many residents.
The US Tsunami Warning System issued a warning regarding the potential for a tsunami affecting parts of Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Mexico.
