The Department of Justice (DOJ), led by Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, continues to investigate a potential “intersection” between the disappearances of e-sabong (online cockfighting) fans and the former administration’s “war on drugs.”

Remulla admitted that information collected and gathered so far opens a link between the two issues.

He clarifies the need for thorough and in-depth investigation, stating that recent arrests in Meycauayan, Bulacan, involving individuals connected to illegal drugs, have also shown ties to the missing “sabungero” cases.

The Justice Secretary firmly believes that the same “death squads” active during the height of the drug war may be behind the unexpected vanishing, suggesting the involvement of unnamed officials.

Assuring that the investigation remains a top priority, Remulla stated the DOJ is solely focused on the 34 identified “sabungero” victims but also on other possible victims of past “disappearances.” He cleared that the current case buildup is systematic, ensuring a diligent and relaxed act to uncover the full truth.
