The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) explained that the strong earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu, this Monday, October 13, was an aftershock of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck on September 30, which has already killed 75 people.
According to Phivolcs Dir. Teresito Bacolcol said the strength of the said aftershock is within their expected aftershock from a magnitude 6.0 event with a maximum of 5.9 or 5.8, so he said it is no longer surprising.
It can be recalled that Phivolcs initially reported that the new earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu, was magnitude 6.0, but it was later downgraded to magnitude 5.8.
Intensity V was felt in Bogo City, Daanbantayan, Medellín, San Remegio, Tabogon, and Tabuelan in Cebu; Villaba in Leyte; and Escalante City in Negros Occidental. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) explained that the strong earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu, this Monday, October 13, was an aftershock of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck on September 30, which has already killed 75 people.
