A 33-year-old online delivery driver survived after intentionally crashing his multicab into a trailer truck along the Cebu South Coastal Road this morning.
The driver admitted that the suicide attempt was fueled by a personal conflict with his partner, who had reportedly left their home in Mandaue days prior. After she refused to go with him earlier today, the driver decided to crash his vehicle, resulting only in a minor knee injury and damage to a CT-TODA traffic post.
Investigations revealed that the driver had previously posted a suicidal message on social media from the Mactan Bridge, which was later deleted. Following the incident, CT-TODA Head Jonathan Tumulak confirmed that a report will be sent to the LTO for possible sanctions against the driver’s license.
Meanwhile, the couple has been referred to the City Social Welfare Office for counseling, while authorities remind the public to seek mental health support and avoid driving when under extreme emotional distress.
