CEBU CITY— A policeman died after accidentally shooting himself with his reported service firearm on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, past 9 a.m. in Sitio Ukban, Barangay Buhisan, Cebu City.
The victim was identified as Edmund Danieles Agustin, 33, a married police officer assigned to the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Unit of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.
Based on the initial investigation, the victim arrived at his home from his workplace, but a few seconds later, his aunt heard an explosion, causing them to check on the relative and find Agustin sitting down and bleeding.
They tried to save the victim by calling for help from the Barangay Action Response Team in Brgy Buhisan and immediately rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
The police recovered 1 shell of a 9mm bullet and a 9mm service firearm from the victim.
Following this incident, PLTCOL Maria Theresa Macatangay, the Deputy City Director for Operations, warned police officers and gun owners to be careful and responsible with their firearms and to remember their gun safety training so that similar incidents do not happen again. |Bombo Irene Ardiente
