A tragic incident opened out on Saturday, July 19, when a tourist boat conveying 53 people capsized in Halong Bay. The disaster, fundamentally linked to the strong winds of storm Wipha, resulted in the deaths of 34 individuals.

Most of the tourists on board were reportedly from the Hanoi area of Vietnam. While emergency rescuers relentlessly continue their in-depth search for potential survivors, the nationalities of other tourists have yet to be found out.

As of the ongoing rescue operation, the state-run Vietnam News Agency reported that rescue teams found 11 survivors and recovered 27 bodies, 8 of whom are children.

The severe weather brought by storm Wipha has also notably affected air travel. Noi Bai Airport reported that nine flights have been diverted, and three departing flights are currently grounded.

Storm Wipha, the third typhoon to touch the South China Sea this year, is expected to make landfall on Vietnam’s northern coast next week.|Bombo Irene Ardiente
