Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera, Chairman of the Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, Energy, and Other Utilities, was invited to Yokohama City, Japan, for an official study mission.
The visit was conducted at no cost to the Cebu City Government. The primary objective of the trip was to study advanced Solid Waste Management (SWM) and Waste-to-Energy (WTE) technologies.
It can be recalled that Garganera has been a long-time advocate for the establishment of a Waste-to-Energy facility in Barangay Guba, Cebu City, as a solution to the city’s mounting garbage problems.
However, the project previously faced opposition from several residents in the said barangay.
