The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is proud of its “Walang Gutom” program, which it says has helped reduce the hunger rate in the country.

This is also based on a survey conducted by Social Weather Stations, where the involuntary hunger rate of families dropped to 16.1% in the past three months, from 20% in April, according to the survey conducted on June 25-29.

The DSWD confirmed that this decrease proves the effectiveness of the ‘whole of nation approach’, including the Walang Gutom Program (WGP) of President Marcos Jr., which Asec. Irene Dumlao said it has helped provide food to the poorest families.

Despite the challenges, the government is determined to expand the program to achieve the goal of zero hunger before the end of the President’s term in 2028.

The WGP targets to increase the number of beneficiaries to 300,000 by 2025, from the current 300,000 households in the country.
