The construction of the expansion of the Philippines’ longest bridge, the San Juanico Bridge, is set to begin in 2028.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the feasibility study for the construction of the second San Juanico Bridge connecting Samar and Leyte is almost complete.
According to DPWH Senior USec. Emil Sadain, a wrap-up meeting was held with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on July 25, which is an important step towards the finalization of the technical and economic evaluations for the said project.
The bridge to be built will be an additional crossing of the 2.16-kilometer San Juanico Bridge, which is currently undergoing rehabilitation due to aging and deteriorating infrastructure.
The final feasibility report to JICA is expected to be submitted in September this year.
